JANESVILLE RESEARCH INSTITUTE
The JRI is a student organization dedicated to exploring science through hands-on, student-led research projects. Students in the organization often go on to pursue science degrees in college and some continue to work in laboratories in college.
By the year 2050, it is estimated that 10 million deaths in the world will occur as a result of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. How do we prevent the crisis from getting that bad? There are a number of ideas, but we are trying to address it by:
Using bacteriophages (or phages) to infect bacteria and make them sensitive to antibiotics
Identify and characterize novel antibiotics.
The JRI receives funding from the UW Carbone Cancer Center.
